Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI)

Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) is an optical test procedure that scans the PCB using one or more cameras. The photographs taken are evaluated using image processing techniques based on geometric data and parameters. This allows visible defects such as incorrect component placement or missing components to be detected. Soldering defects and soldering quality can be detected and evaluated with limitations. AOI can also be easily supplemented with the Flying Probe, since AOI systems often produce "pseudo defects" that have to be checked manually again afterwards. These faults can be verified by electrical testing in combination with a flying probe System.
