Design for Testability

Design for testing or design for testability (DFT) are design techniques that add testability characteristics to a hardware product design. Additional functions can also be used to facilitate the development and application of manufacturing tests to the hardware. The goal of manufacturing testing is to eliminate manufacturing defects that could interfere with the correct functioning of the product. The DfT guidelines, for example, typically specify how the sufficient contactability of a PCB for the planned test methods (e.g. ICT, functional test...) is to be ensured.
